Death of a beloved star

On feburary fifth, one stallion died. He was a sucsessful stallion, having produced a triple crown winner. He himself had a amazing career, one almost like one out of a book. His name was Stay Gold, a small bay stallion named after a Stevie Wonder song.

His career wouldn’t be in the record books. He won only one G1 race in his fifty race career, and he has more seconds and thirds then first. Yet the fans loved the small bay who was always there, trying to catch up to the greates who roared by. When he won a race, a small graded stakes race called Nakameguro Kinen, which had no national importance, grandstand roared, and fans cried. Everyone couldnt help but love him.

He then won dubai sheema classic in 2001 downing Fantastic light, which was a G2 race back then. Fans, wished he would win a G1 race, a race to secure himself a position as a stallion.

At the end of that year, Stay gold raced for a last time. It was his 50th race, and second time outside of japan. It was Hongkong’s Honkong vase, a international G1 race.

Ekraar, in a blue godolphins silk, ran away to a win.

everyone thought so in the middle of the home streach, because the small bay wouldnt be able to catch up.

Maybe, he knew that it was a last time out.

Maybe, he just didnt like blue.

anyway, he ran down Ekraar, from a impossible position, and grabed a G1 win for the first time.

No one really thought that he would be a sucsess as a stallion. He was small, and had only one G1 race win. Yet, he defyed that.

he produced Dream Journy, a small bay like himself, who went to win multiple G1 wins

He produced Nakayama Festa, a bay from an undistingueshed farm who finished second to Workforce in the ‘arc

he produced Orfevre, a chestnut who won japanese triple crown, and finished second in the ‘arc for two years in a low

He produced Gold ship, a tempermental gray who has won back to back Takarazuka kinen.

Maybe, he was relived to see his sons be a sucsess.

He died, suddenly, all to suddenly, at age 21, on cold winter day of feburary fifth.

BORDER finale ep9 [review]

avanpiper87's avatarRitsu no Dorama Land

BORDER getting so philosophical in the finale made my head ache for a bit.

“There’s not much difference between justice and evil. What’s different is the people that are involved.”

I’m not sure if I agree with that but there is some truth in it. Every person plays a role in this society. Only when there’s evil, there’s justice. Only when there’s darkness, there’s light.

This last case was like the previous case in ep7 where the culprit wasn’t caught. I hate to think of just how many crimes in this world that never get solved.

A kid got kidnapped and murdered. Ango almost immediately found the murderer but couldn’t find any concrete evidence to pin him down.

Epiphaneia wins Japan cup by four lengths over Just A Way

Epiphaneia fumed through the entire race untill the final straight, and when given the go sign, cruised to four length victory over Dubai Duty Free winner Just a way.

Epiphaneia was born in 2010 in Hokkaido, out of G1 winning mare Cesario and by two time japanese horse of the year Symboli Kris S. Everyone had high hopes for Epiphaneia even before he was born, from his pedigree to his brother, who had been promising, yet died after one race. Epiphaneia didn’t disappoint. Epiphaneia won his maidan race, and then won GII Radio Kikkei-Hai 2yr old Stakes.

As a three year old, temperamental problems surfaced for Epiphaneia, which lead to his loss in Yayoi-sho. He finished second in first second legs of the triple crown, but his jockey managed to get him under his control in the Kikka-sho, giving Epiphaneia the first G1 win.

Epiphaneia was winless at four untill the Japan cup. Yet he had been improving with close sixth place effort in Tenno sho(fall). His regular jockey Fukunaga had chosen to ride Just A Way, and troublesome colt was left in the hands of leading rider Christophe Soumillon.

the betters saw that the Belgian rider would have a positive effect on Epiphaneia. At the post time, Epiphaneia was betted down to 9-1 despite being winless in over a year.

Epiphaneia fumed through the entire race, and didn’t stop in the long Tokyo stretch. Just A Way and Spielberg was after him, yet there was four length between Just a way and Epiphaneia at the line. The favorite Gentilldonna was back in fourth, and Harp Star had made it into fifth.

Epiphaneia will run in Arima Kinen next.

Tomei the Cinderella horse

She was small, unappealing filly who had trainers and prospective buyers dubbing her ’rat horse’. No trainers were willing to take her in, and when she managed to get in, she was tied in small yard outside of the stables. Yet she became one of few mares to win Tenno sho(fall) and Arima Kinen. Her name was, Tomei.

Tomei was born in Hokkaido out of Meiji Hikari mare Toshi Manna by Italian sire Cipriani in May 17, 1966. She was out on market young, yet no one bought her, even with two other horses in the same package. The Breeder finally managed to sell her in a auction. the trainer who was supposed to take Tomei in died, and the other trainers refused to take her in. The owner scurried around, and managed to get her into the training stables. Because of her bad temper, she didn’t have a groom, and was tied in a front yard outside of the stables. No one was expecting anything out of this small ’rat horse’

Tomei was second in her maidan race in August of her second year, and knocked up sixteen wins between the thirty one races she ran until her retirement as a five year old in 1971. The wins included Tenno sho (fall) and Arima Kinen, a notable G1 race. The Tenno sho(fall) was raced at distance of 3200 at the time, and Tomei had mainly raced in a mile race. The betters were doubtful that she could complete at distance on 3200 meters, but Tomei’s jockey said ” well, it’s just that we’ll have to run a mile twice”

Tomei raced to win in Tenno sho, then raced to Arima kinen win at end of the year. She was named a horse of the year in 1971, and was retired. She foaled one graded stakes winner Tenmei, who also won Tenno sho (fall)

Kurifuji, one of greatest racemare in history of japan.

She raced eleven times and won eleven times, and no horse could step on her shadow as she raced ahead with ease. The lengths she won by added up to over eighty lenghs. The name of the filly was Kurifuji, and it would take 64 years untill another filly won the Japanese derby. Kurifuji, was born in 1940 in japan by Tournsol out of chapel Brendon mare Kenfuji. She debuted in 1943 as a three year old and broke her maidan by a lengh, a smallest winning margin in her career. For the next start, kurifuji was enterd in the derby. she started badly, and everyone thought that she had no chance of winning.

Her jockey couldn’t hear the hoofbeats of a second placed horse by the time Kurifuji had crossed the line first. She wasn’t even breathing heavily in the winners circle. She then ran in the oaks and the Kika sho, and her win in the Kika sho is still the largest winning margin since the race began.

she raced until April next year, and retird because she caught a bad cold. She lived untill 25 years of age, and her family line remains to this day. Trainer of Symboli rudolf, a horse sometimes  considered to be the greatest racehorse in japan had named kurifuji at the best japanese racehorse. Also, she had won races against older males carrying over 60kilograms and won races from distance 1600 to 3000. She is one of few unbeatens in Japanese racing.

Mejiro Palmar, the beloved idiot.

He was fourth horse to win spring and fall Grand Prix, yet he was almost never a favorite. Also, he is the only G1 winner in japan who had ran in a steeplechase. He ran away at the pace only idiots would do and sometimes won. his name was, Mejiro palmar.

Mejiro palmar was born in 1987 in Mejiro farm, a distinguished throughbred farm. His sire was Mejiro Eagle and his dam was Gay mercene mare Mejiro fantasy. Mejiro palmar went unnoticed as a foal, as born on the same year was Mejiro McQueen and Mejiro Ryan, who would become the legends of the track.

Mejiro Palmar debuted as a two year old, and until his retirement at age seven, he ran 38 times and won 9 times including a steeplechase race and two G1s. He ran in a steeplechase at age five two times after becoming winless. He was first And second in his two runs in steeplechase, but put back on flats because he was so bad at jumping over the fence.

Then, at age six, Mejiro Palmar was entered in Takarazuka Kinen, the spring Grand Prix. He was ninth favorite, and his owner wasn’t there because no one had expected him to win.

Mejiro palmar ran off and held closers off with bottomless stamina and won by a length. The Hanshin track’s crowd who had been laughing watching Mejiro palmar’s run in the backstretch now had there jaws dropping. His owner watching the event on tv at home was taken by a surprise. Everyone, was surprised about him managing to run off after running in improbable pace.

then Mejiro palmar became winless, nocking up ninth and seventeenth place. The seventeenth place finish, was in Tenno sho(fall), where he ran a idiotic first mile of the race along with Daitaku Helios in 2200meter race. He also had dragged along the favorite Tokai Teio, the Iron Lady Ikuno Dictus, and handsome blond Tosho falco to a pace faster the mile G1 race Yasuda Kinen for the first mile of the race. They all faltered in the stretch, and Mejiro palmar had finished last. But the surprise of this ran was faded by eleventh favorite finishing first

That is why, Mejiro palmar was second to last favorite in Arima kinen, the fall Grand Prix. Tokai teio was the odds on favorite. But, the race turned out to be a race for idiotic duo, Mejiro Palmar and Daitaku Helios. Mejiro McQueen ran off first, with Daitaku Helios on his heels. The crowds laughed as the idiot’s duo blew through the backstretch at improbable pace, more then ten length in front of a horse running in third. Everyone thought that runners in back would catch up, but they were still ten length behind in the final corner. Somehow, Mejiro palmar, who had shrugged off Daitaku Helios held on to the lead, and won the event by a neck.

The track was put in a chaos. Who is he? What happened to Tokai Teio, Rice shower and others? What was that pace? Mejiro Palmar’s jockey patted his neck, and praised his mount as the crowds tried to make sense of everything.

Mejiro palmar didn’t win another race, but finished second in his last race. He was retired to stud, but was not successful, and his only successful foal was a steeplechaser Mejiro Ryden. Mejiro Palmar was loved by fans who had liked his style of running off with a improbable pace and winning. He was, a beloved idiot, a horse fans couldn’t help to love.
